Maria Mandujano

Major: Finance
Graduation Date: May 2018

Why did you choose to pursue a degree in business?
Growing up, I always looked up to my parents, who were business people, in Mexico. Once they moved to the United States, they had a dream to own a business, but they lacked the resources to do so. My parents focused on making sure my siblings and I were able to have the education and resources to create our dreams without as many limitations as my parents had. This all factored into pursuing a degree in business. With this degree, I will be able to become an educated business woman with numerous opportunities. I will have the resources to create my own business, as well as, provide a business for my parents for them to own.
What piece of advice would you give to an incoming female business student?
The greatest piece of advice would be to take risks and be involved on and off campus. There are opportunities left and right, but you choose which ones to take and use wisely.
What different resources, organizations and events on campus helped shape you as a business student?
The Campus Activities Board, ALPFA, Leadershape, and Alpha Kappa Psi have shaped me into the well-rounded business student I am today. As the treasurer for the Campus Activities Board, it has helped me learn how to ask effective questions and communicate in a group setting. ALPFA has shaped me by educating me on taking risks and meeting new people that will challenge me. Alpha Kappa Psi has encouraged me to take on leadership positions I didn't think I was ready for. Being a participant of Leadershape, has allowed me to create a well-founded vision and received constructive feedback from it. I am thankful for these organizations that have helped shape me with soft and hard skills many jobs are looking for.
