Why did you choose to pursue a degree in business?
I chose to pursue a degree in business because I wanted to work in a competitive environment that was the center for most all other jobs to stem from. Business is such a powerful and influential industry that can dictate the direction that other industries take and wanted to be apart of that influence. I also wanted to pursue business and accounting in particular because that industry has such a male dominated, boring and traditional stereotype surrounding it that I want to help eradicate and morph into a fresh new career. The challenge and excitement that surrounds this field is what has attracted me to a business degree.
What piece of advice would you give to an incoming female business student?

For incoming female business students I would like to first say that it is not going to be fair or easy, but it will be worth it. Walking into situations and only seeing two females out of an entire group might be discouraging, but try to see it as progress rather than injustice. The business industry is still ran at the top by predominantly male CEO's, thus a glass ceiling still exists for women, but you can't let that stop you from pursuing your passions. Your work and dedication to growth and success will proceed your gender in this industry if you let it.

What different resources, organizations and events on campus helped shape you as a business student?

The Business Honors program has been the most influential factor in helping shape me into the business student that I am. Through this program I have been able to become more knowledgeable on business basics such as the differences in business professional and casual attire and have been able to polish my interview skills and soft skills through events such as mock Interviews. This program has also helped flourish me into a student who is more comfortable speaking with established and accomplished individuals and given me the confidence to grow my personal network.
